One Health Symposium 2026: Bats, Bugs & Borders: Emerging Zoonoses in a Warming World


Bats, Bugs & Borders: Emerging Zoonoses in a Warming World is a One Health symposium hosted by the SAVMA Public Health Committee at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, on One Health Day, November 3, 2026. This in-person evening of expert talks and a speaker panel brings together veterinary, medical and health sciences students and faculty to explore how climate change is reshaping the diseases shared by people, animals and the environment. Speakers from LA County Veterinary Public Health, Cal Poly Pomona, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District and the WesternU College of Veterinary Medicine will cover rabies in bats and raccoons, tick-borne disease detection, bats and global stressors, and mosquito and vector control. The event promotes One Health by showing how veterinarians, physicians, public health professionals and ecologists must work together to detect and prevent emerging zoonoses.
